"As a second generation immigrant and a former public school teacher in East Harlem, I know too well the inequalities and the difficulties that East Harlem families face. Union Settlement Association’s holistic approach to inequity touches the lives of every East Harlem resident in one way or another. I am running to support those families that need the help that Union Settlement provides.

Whether a family participates through the early childhood education program providing programs to ensure that East Harlem’s children go to school with the proper skills to succeed, participates through Union Settlement’s Credit Union providing free savings accounts and low-interest loans to those who would never otherwise receive them, or participates in any of the vast spectrum of resources from cradle to career that Union Settlement provides, Union Settlement supports the East Harlem community so that those who are in need are able to build better lives for themselves and their families.

Help support Union Settlement Association’s efforts by donating to my 2011 ING New York City Marathon run. 100% of your donation will go directly to the essential programming that Union Settlement provides.

I've pledged to raise $3,000.00 to support the Union Settlement Association.

Your contribution today will help East Harlem families change their lives for the better.

Union Settlement Association works with and for the predominantly immigrant community of East Harlem. A community mainstay since 1895, we foster leadership and self-sufficiency by assisting our neighbors in building better lives for themselves and their families. Today, we are one of the area's largest social service agencies. Each year, we serve more than 13,000 people with effective programs in education, childcare, youth development, senior services, job training, the arts, nutrition, counseling and community development.
