Volunteer Groups at Union Settlement
This month we would like to thank and highlight the many service groups and corporate groups that serve Union Settlement every month. This spring we've hosted several groups, they have done excellent work sprucing up our community garden and youth center, helping during the 18th Annual Ethnic Festival, and packing and delivering meals to homebound seniors as part of our Meals on Wheels Programs.
We hope that volunteers leave with a better sense about our work and how they can join us in serving East Harlem. "The main thing I learned is that I am not so exhausted that there isn't some little thing I can do to be of service. And, that those little things can and do make a difference," said Monique, who volunteered on April 24 as part of the Wellpont's Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield team.

One time opportunities:
We know life gets busy here are some of our short term opportunities that you can do alone or with a group:
Meals on Wheels Volunteer: Come on in on a Saturday and help pack and deliver meals to homebound seniors in the community.
Career Presenter: Inspire and motivate our youth and adults by sharing your education and career path, and answering inquiries.
Mentor: Be a mentor to an East Harlem high school student by developing a trusting relationship and encouraging their interest in college.
Holiday: Organize and host a holiday party with your company for our children or seniors.
Host a Drive: Collect toys, gifts, or turkeys to distribute to the participants of our programs.

From the Executive Director
I would like to thank all the groups who come to Union Settlement to work with our particpants and spruce up our facilities. Their work is greatly appreciated and welcomed. For example, on May 22 a group of volunteers from Goldman Sachs helped make our 18th Annual Ethnic Festival a resounding success. On June 8 Morgan Stanley in conjunction with NY Cares took time out of their day to provide job readiness skills to our Adult Education Program participants, conducting mock interviews, resume prep, and workshops on professionalism and career exploration.
Here at Union Settlement we value the work that volunteers do whether they come for one day or months. We always welcome collaborations with groups and corporations that would like to plan a service day.
