Union Settlement Cocktail Reception
For more than 130 years, Union Settlement has been a cornerstone of East Harlem, providing high quality programs and services across early childhood education, youth development, adult education, workforce training, senior services, and community support. Our work is rooted in community and designed by and for the people we serve.
Union Settlement invites supporters and partners to join us for an evening cocktail reception celebrating community and impact in East Harlem. This special gathering will bring together community leaders, donors, and advocates for a lively and meaningful evening of connection.
The event will feature:
- Passed hors d’oeuvres
- Cocktails and beverages
- A brief program highlighting Union Settlement’s mission, impact, and priorities
- Recognition of local heroes who exemplify leadership and service in East Harlem (honoree announcements coming soon)

Congressman Adriano Espaillat proudly represents New York’s 13th Congressional District, including East Harlem, Harlem, Washington Heights, and the northwest Bronx. The first Dominican American elected to the U.S. House of Representatives—and the first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in Congress—he has dedicated his career to advocating for immigrant communities, working families, and small businesses. As a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressman Espaillat has secured billions in federal funding for his district, supporting critical investments in infrastructure, housing, youth programs, and community development. In recognition of his longstanding advocacy for East Harlem and surrounding communities, Union Settlement is proud to honor Congressman Espaillat with the Legacy in Service Award. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Community Partnerships and Initiatives (CPI) team — Marty Preciado, Jinelle Thompson, Laura Arike, and Victoria Campa — is being honored with the Community Partnership and Impact Award for their extraordinary commitment to expanding access, belonging, and cultural participation across New York City. Through deep listening, thoughtful collaboration, and authentic partnership with community-based organizations, the team has created meaningful opportunities for families, children, and neighbors to engage with art and culture. Their partnership with Union Settlement, especially through our annual holiday drive, has helped us serve more families each year and bring joy to countless children in East Harlem. We are proud to celebrate their continued impact on our community and across the city.James Gonzalez is the Co-Owner of La Fonda NYC, a historic Puerto Rican restaurant in East Harlem dedicated to preserving the legacy first built by Jorge Ayala while evolving how Puerto Rican food is experienced and respected. Not just as comfort food, but as cuisine. With a deep commitment to El Barrio, James has helped transform La Fonda NYC into a cultural and entrepreneurial hub, blending hospitality, art, and community-driven programming. His work centers on honoring tradition while pushing forward a modern vision of neighborhood entrepreneurship by partnering with small businesses to create pop-ups and collaborative experiences, including Black Rican Vegan, Chef Bradley Alvelo, and Abuelitas Desserts. Ensuring Puerto Rican culture, flavor, and storytelling continue to thrive in New York City.
