Jennifer Geiling Steps Down as Union Settlement’s CEO; Derrick Boone Named Interim CEO

East Harlem, NY – The Board of Directors of Union Settlement (www.unionsettlement.org), the oldest and largest social service provider in East Harlem, today announced that Jennifer Geiling has stepped down as its Chief Executive Officer and will consult with the organization during the transition period.

Derrick Boone, Chief Program Officer for Adult Services and Chief Compliance Officer, has been named Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

“We are grateful for Jennifer’s leadership in strengthening the organization’s operations and launching the Economic Development Division and Family Enrichment Center with a commitment to excellence,” said Amy Sherman, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Jennifer has had a successful tenure as our CEO. Her role in engaging with the East Harlem community and championing our workforce, mission, and values has also been important. We appreciate her commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and supporting underrepresented communities and nonprofits like Union Settlement and wish her all the best.”

“Thank you to Amy and the Board of Directors during my tenure,” said Jennifer Geiling.  “Union Settlement has been a bedrock for more than 127 years.  It was an honor to lead the organization and build a team that will continue to strengthen and grow support for residents and businesses in the East Harlem community for future growth.”

Mr. Boone joined Union Settlement in June 2018. For over two decades, he has worked for nonprofit social service programs in direct care, professional consultation, and executive leadership. He has experience working with organizations that focus on mental health, employment, education, school-based counseling, seniors, transitional living, trauma informed care, and homelessness.  He has Master’s and Doctorate degrees in psychology from Loma Linda University.

“As Interim CEO, I am honored to work with our entire team and Board during this period on behalf of this unique organization serving the residents of East Harlem in so many important ways,” said Derrick. “I appreciated the opportunity to work alongside Jennifer and also wish her the best for the future.”
